I felt very moved by these images by David Perkins of ballerinas at home. Part of it comes from the sheer beauty of a ballet dancer’s form- there’s nothing like it. The other part that I loved about these photos was the rawness in them; being a stylist I’m used hiding flaws to make a room pretty for a picture, but I actually love the imperfections. T.V. remotes, piles of dirty clothes and garbage cans may not be innately beautiful, but the fact that they are there in these images made the impact more real for me. In addition, these dancers are used to being on show in costume and full makeup, but these snaps are at home au naturel, adding another honest (and liberating) layer to the imagery. What about you? Do these images make you feel anything?
And re: above? Cutest thing you’ve ever seen? Me too.
